How to Build an Annual Cultivation System

This isn’t a finished article. It’s the system as it exists today — it will keep growing with new entries as the year passes and things get adjusted.

July 14, 2026 — Starting point

Watering

Only water when the substrate is dry. Never water while it’s still moist.

Soil mix

A mix of volcanic rock and pumice. Akadama and kiryu aren’t available where I live, so the system adapted to what is.

Fertilizing

With Biogold, whenever it can be found. Mostly in spring and summer, a little in fall, none in winter — with a few exceptions depending on the species. More on this in a future entry.

Repotting

Only at the beginning of spring.

Tools

For now, clean, sharp scissors are enough. I’ll give tools their own entry later.
